Incident at Otedola Bridge: Residents Collect Fuel from Fallen Tanker, No Injuries Reported

Fallen Tanker at Otedola Bridge, Residents Collect Fuel

Residents were seen hastily collecting diesel from a fallen tanker near Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Thursday evening, while nearby motorists were gripped with fear of a potential fire. The tanker, suspected to have lost control, toppled over a white bus belonging to the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies.

"People are looting, scooping fuel from the tanker," reported Kazeem Babatunde, a motorist at the scene. Some residents expressed frustration as arriving policemen attempted to stop them from collecting the fuel.

The bus driver, Taiwo Bakare, recounted the incident, explaining how the tanker's fall forced his bus towards the gutter. "Nobody was injured," he reassured. Bolaji Oreagba, Chairman of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, also arrived to oversee the situation.

Giwa Abiodun, an official from LASTMA, attributed the crash to likely brake failure and speeding, confirming that no lives were lost. Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and policemen, were present at the scene.

In a separate incident, a tanker carrying petrol exploded in the Sari Iganmu area of the state a few hours later. At the time of this report, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services were actively working to contain the fire. The agency’s spokesperson, Shakiru Amodu, confirmed the ongoing situation.
