Tinubu Mediates Impasse For Peace Breakthrough in Rivers State

Gov. Fubara, & FCT Minister Wike Bury their Hatchet in Presidential Meeting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown his weight to resolve the political tensions in Rivers State. He recently hosted Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former governor Sir Peter Odili for closed-door talks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Other Rivers State stakeholders were also in attendance.

The meeting comes amidst conflict between Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike. The President has stepped in to de-escalate the situation.

Key resolutions in the session aim to wind down legal action, impeachment proceedings, and legislative disputes. Fubara has agreed to immediately withdraw all court cases brought by his administration tied to the crisis. Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly will abandon ongoing efforts to impeach the Governor.

Tinubu's directives also reinforce the Assembly's independence. The body's leadership under Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule will be recognized, alongside 27 PDP-defecting members. Full remuneration and benefits will resume for all legislators and staff. The Assembly will choose where to convene without executive branch interference.

Governor Fubara must also resubmit the state budget to the legislature. Commissioner nominees who resigned amidst the political turmoil will be presented again for approval. Caretaker committees unlawfully established for local governments will dissolve.
