The Kano State Police Command has successfully apprehended a notorious armed robber, identified as Hassan Iliya, and confiscated two AK-47 rifles along with 47 rounds of live ammunition. The arrest took place on August 5, 2024, at around 6:00 AM, following a high-stakes operation by local authorities.
According to a statement released by SP Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa, the police also recovered N4,986,000 from the suspect. This recovery follows a brazen robbery where Iliya and his gang had previously targeted a residence in Kunchi Local Government Area, stealing N15 million.
The detailed report notes that at approximately 2:00 AM on August 5, 2024, a resident of Yandadi Village in Kunchi LGA reported a violent attack by armed robbers. The criminals broke into the home, assaulted the owner, and made off with N15 million.
In response to the incident, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, ordered a specialized team of detectives to carry out intelligence-based patrols. Their efforts led to the capture of Hassan Iliya, a 35-year-old resident of Alhazawa Village in Musawa LGA, Katsina State, who was attempting to flee on a motorcycle.
A search of the suspect's location uncovered a sack containing two AK-47 rifles, 47 rounds of live ammunition, and the recovered cash totaling N4,986,000. The investigation is ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police has called on the public to act responsibly, avoid activities that could incite violence, and stay vigilant.
