Once upon a time, there lived a man called Adewunmi.
Adewunmi is a very influential young man that's also renowned both far and wide for the kind of wealth he has at a very young age.
He owned thousands hectares of lands, golds, and treasures that could feed a kingdom for years. But Adewunmi has an achilles heels because he wasn't only wealthy; he was also consumed by pride. He believed his riches were his shield, and nothing, not even death, could touch him.
Adewunmi had a grand vault, a fortress of steel, where he stored his treasures. Only he knew the intricate combination to open it. Not even his closest aides or family members were trusted with the secret.
"Only I have the wisdom to guard my wealth," he often boasted.
He had his guards, praise singers, and servants around him to ensure nobody dared to intrude into his private life. He was such a private person that days could go by without him being seen, something his loved ones and household had grown used to.
"I am now a full grown man, stop treating me like a kid" he often protest to his mum.
"You will always be a kid to me." the mum would reply.
"Adewunmi might be a kid at home, but he is a big man outside" praise worshipers often echoes in Praises to Adewunmi.
This particular praise is often echoed to spite Adewunmi's Mum when she tries to check on her son. What a way to cut the nose to spite the face.
One day, when Adewunmi was supervising his treasures, he stepped into the vault to make sure everything was just fine in its place, as usual. As he was admiring the sight of his riches, the heavy door swung behind him and closed. In his pride, he had planned the vault to lock automatically; there was no way from inside that it could be opened.
He first thought "it was but a small issue," "Surely, someone will notice my absence," he muttered. But hours passed on to days, and no one came. The guards just assumed him in his room, musing in his silence, and family dared not near him out of fear for his wrath.
In the vault, amidst gold and jewels, Adewunmi was faced with a slow and agonizing death. His cries for help were muffled through the thick steel walls. The treasures he had so fiercely guarded could not save him from starvation and thirst.
By the time anybody realized that he was missing, and the vault was forced open, it was too late. There lay Adewunmi, lifeless, amidst the wealth he had cherished above all else. His death became a grim reminder to the world: wealth is meaningless if it isolates you from those who genuinely love and cares about you, and blinds you to the simple truths of life.
